DOJ Email Refers to New Rochelle Council Member as ‘Epstein’s Attorney’
An email included in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Epstein document release refers to “Mr. Epstein’s attorney, Barry Fertel.” Fertel, shown at right, served on the New Rochelle City Council during the period reflected in the correspondence.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (February 12, 2026) — Emails contained in the U.S. Department of Justice’s recently released Epstein document archive show that New Rochelle City Council member and longtime local attorney Barry R. Fertel performed private legal work for Jeffrey Epstein in the years following Epstein’s 2008 criminal conviction.

The correspondence — dated between 2011 and 2013 and included in the DOJ’s public Epstein file release — shows Fertel acting as outside counsel in a civil judgment enforcement matter involving restraining notices, garnishment efforts and coordination with a New York City marshal’s office.

The emails cited are drawn directly from the DOJ’s publicly released Epstein files.
