New York Post Blasts Downtown New Rochelle in Scathing New Roc City Story

DUBLIN, IRELAND (September 28, 2026) — A reader sent me a New York Post story Monday morning about New Roc City, and my first reaction was: Hey, wait a minute. Criticizing downtown New Rochelle and poking holes in City Hall’s redevelopment narrative is my job. 🙂

The headline was hard to miss: “Monstrous NY shopping mall that aimed to spark troubled downtown devolves into bane of Dem-run city.”

There is plenty to criticize about New Roc City. I have done it myself. There is plenty to criticize about the redevelopment of downtown New Rochelle, and I have certainly done that. What interested me about the Post story was something different: how it took a collection of real problems, complaints and incidents and assembled them into a much larger argument about New Roc City and, ultimately, downtown New Rochelle.
