Ireland’s Shane Lowry drops winning putt on 18 at Bethpage Black, a few feet in front of me.

DUBLIN, IRELAND (October 12, 2025) — After more than two weeks travelling in the USA, I am back home in Europe. I booked so much activity — Ryder Cup, Metropolitan Opera Opening Night, Yankee’s’ Playoff Clinching Game, Notre Dame v. Boise State, Chicago and more — that it took me a few days to adjust back to IST, and get out from under a backlog of work. The good news is that my social media is on fire. Facebook is at over 2.1 mm views. Instagram is over 375,000 views so about 2.5 mm on Meta. Even I am shocked given the size of my coverage area.

This massive surge has me thinking differently about my publishing strategy. As longtime readers know, I have loathed Facebook because of the comments section. I made a decision to switch to the only post-comment moderation option offered which is hidden comments. What that means is that all comments are published immediately but only visible to the commenter and their Facebook friends. To be seen by everyone I have to manually select unhide. I have to do this because without moderation I will have comments seeking to exploit my audience in various bad ways (spam, trolls, foul-language, etc.). This was one thing on 100,000 monthly views but is an entirely different matter on over 2 million monthly views (and growing). I am now managing the comments continuously throughout the day.

Between publishing much more and actively managing the comments I am overwhelmed. However, the thinking differently part, is that with my new massive audience, I can drive traffic and reader attention to my other platforms to a degree never before possible. At some point — and I may be there already — I am the dominant media outlet in my coverage area defined currently as the Sound Shore communities but including overlapping news from the governments of Westchester County, New York State and the USA. It is addicting to keep growing my audience but I cannot keep this up on my own so I will be looking to hire people to support my work.

Words in Edgewise

Getting back to it soon.
